Abrasive and Sandpaper Grain Types
If you would like assistance in determining the best belt material for your application:
-
Ceramic : C/A
Ceramic abrasives provide the longest life & fastest cut rate of all coated abrasives. They are the newest innovation in grain technology and represent the ultimate in performance, providing an aggressive cut under medium or high pressure. They also provide a more consistent Ra (surface finish) than other abrasives. Used primarily on metal applications.
Our original “Firestorm Ceramic” grain (X-wt. Polyester, T-wt. Cotton or fiber backing). Available in the following forms: Belts, resin fiber discs, quick-lock discs, flap discs, cartridge rolls, square & cross pads.
NEW – Firestorm II grain (Y-wt. Polyester or fiber backing) (lasts up to 30% longer than our original Firestorm material) Available in the following forms: Belts, resin fiber discs and quick-lock discs.
-
Zirconia Alumina : Z/A
Zirconia Alumina is commonly referred to as Zirc or Zirconium. It is ideal for coarse to medium grit applications on metal. Works best under high pressure, which is required for the grain to fracture exposing new sharp edges.
-
Aluminum Oxide : A/O
Aluminum Oxide is the most common & least expensive. Good starting point for most metal and wood applications.
-
Silicon Carbide : S/C
Silicon Carbide is good for grinding glass, plastic, rubber, paint, wood products, titanium alloys and cast iron.
